A Massive Month Ahead for the Warriors

Warriors,

On the 6th of April we played against Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City for the annual ‘Crown Relocations Cup’. This a unique event for AFL Asia as the only fixture where the winner is determined by the aggregate scores of the men's and women's games combined. Whilst Vietnam were the clear winners on the day, it was pleasing to see how much the Warrior Women have progressed in the past 12 months. Their skill level has lifted substantially and I give full credit to the girls who show up every week to train and work on their game. I’d also like to give a shout out to Nige who took over as the ladies coach at the start of the year and has done a fantastic job so far. Remarkably there was only 1 Aussie girl playing for the Warriors, the rest of the team were all internationals which is a great sign for the growth of the game internationally. On the men's side, we were convincingly beaten by a younger and fitter Vietnam side. It looked as though Libba never actually left Vietnam after his 2016 champs campaign as his dead ringer killed us in the midfield all day. One thing we pride ourselves on is effort and I cannot fault the heart shown by everyone who played. The result wasn’t pretty but we will be better for the experience. Special mention to BJ who was voted BOG by the Vietnam guys.

Looking forward we have an absolutely massive month ahead for the club with games and events coming up as follows:

Saturday 11th of May – Away Game @ Singapore

Warrior Men vs Singapore Wombats

Please give the coaches a heads up if you can make this tour or update the spreadsheet to indicate your availability

It’s an absolutely stacked calendar for the next few weekends so make sure you look after your bodies and let’s get a few wins on the board for the club.

In other news, we have had to regrettably withdraw from the tournament in Shanghai which was scheduled on the 1st of June. Unfortunately we don’t quite have the numbers to make it happen with many of the older boys due to fly to Bali just one week later for the Masters tournament. For the first time in our history, the Warriors will be entering two teams in the Masters division at Bali. This gives you an idea of our average playing age for 2019 season. There are still plenty of spots available so if you are keen to join the tour touch base with Digger and he will get you added into the chat group.

Lastly, I am pleased to confirm we now have two more games officially confirmed in the 2019 fixture as follows:

29th of June at Home against Indonesia Volcanoes

21st of September Away in Danang Vietnam.

The Danang game will be our season ending tour and is a mini tournament involving the Warriors, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Should be an awesome way to end the year.

3,2,1 Warriors!!!
